FAQ

Electricity costs, explained

How do I calculate my electricity cost?

Yearly cost = annual usage in kWh × the unit price (cents per kWh, ÷ 100) + the standing charge over twelve months. Example: 2,500 kWh at 35 ct/kWh plus 12 a month is about 1,019 per year. The calculator does it live as you type.

I don't know my kWh usage – what now?

Open the estimator and pick your household size and whether you heat water with electricity. As a rough guideline a one-person flat uses about 1,500 kWh a year, two people about 2,500, four about 4,250. Your exact figure is on your annual statement.

Is my monthly instalment too high?

Enter your current monthly instalment. The tool compares twelve instalments with the computed yearly cost and shows whether you're likely to get money back or face an extra payment — so you can adjust it before the annual bill surprises you.

How much can I save by switching?

Enter a cheaper unit price and the tool shows your yearly saving at the same usage. Comparing your tariff once a year is usually the biggest single lever, especially if you're still on a default tariff.

Which devices use the most electricity?

Usually old fridges and freezers, electric hot water, tumble dryers and always-on devices. Use the device check to see the yearly cost of any appliance from its wattage and daily hours.

Is my data stored or sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser on your device — no account, no cloud, and it never sends or stores your data. It's guidance, not energy or financial advice.

Your financial data stays with you.

Kontoo collects, sees and stores none of your personal financial data – no account, no cloud, everything runs on your device. The free version is funded by ads (Google AdSense, only with your consent); an ad- and tracking-free premium option is planned but not available yet.
